Prayers for the Mission of the Church:

“O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you, bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy spirit, one God, now and for ever.” (Book of Common Prayer, pg.. 257)

“O God of all the nations of the earth: Remember the multitudes who have been created in your image but have not known the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus Christ; and grant that, by the prayers and labors of your holy Church, they may be brought to know and worship you as you have been revealed in your Son; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.” (Book of Common Prayer, pg 257)

The Church, as the Body of Christ, is called to reach out in the name of Jesus Christ in all that we do and say. Our lives are to be instruments of God’s grace to a world that is broken and has been separated from God.

Evangelism is sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Sometimes this Good News is shared in our actions – by preparing a meal at the soup kitchen meal site -- or by taking that same meal to a friend who is facing illness or a challenging life situation. Sometimes Good News is shared by teaching a Sunday School class to children, leading a small group Bible Study, sharing one’s testimony or by preaching a sermon. There are as many vehicles for Evangelism as there are unique individuals. The ministry of Evangelism undergirds all that we say and do at Grace Church. This call to share the Gospel, the Good News of God in Christ, is at the heart of our mission statement: “Sharing the healing love of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit."

Evangelism and Renewal go together. Those who have come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ do have Good News to share. However, every Christian needs times of renewal and refreshing. Our lives are renewed by God’s Spirit as we gather together in worship in the name of Jesus Christ, breaking bread together, hearing life giving sermons and testimonies and praying for each other in times of difficulty or need. We are renewed as we spend time in our own quiet devotions and scripture reading. Every Christian needs times of renewal in which we are called to return to our “first love.“

"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3: 14 – 20, New International Version)
